Latvian covered bond law expected this year

Latvian covered bond legislation permitting the cross-border recognition of cover pool assets is expected to be enacted later this year. The new law is considered to be essential for the development of a pan-Baltic covered bond market, legal experts have said.

Although Latvia’s parliament is focussing on the economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic, the draft law, which was published in October and promoted by the head of the parliamentary finance committee, it is expected to be approved before the summer.
