BNP Paribas benefits from corporate funding boom

BNP Paribas reported strong third quarter results, helped, like other investment banks, by booming capital markets business as corporates sought to strengthen balance sheets and active issuance spurred higher than usual trading volumes.

Third quarter revenues in the corporate and institutional banking division (CIB) were up 17.4% on last year, with global markets leading the way, up 31.8%. Corporate banking was up 7.5%, while securities services was up 1.6%. Pre-tax profit in the division was up 15% to €955m.
