EBA: Europe's banks face €135bn capital shortfall after Basel IV

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has said that Basel III rules could have a severe impact on capital ratios in the European banking sector, creating a capital shortfall of up to €135bn across the industry.

The EBA presented its findings during the course of a public hearing on Tuesday. The European Commission had called on it to analyse how the new Basel III rules could affect banks in Europe. It it is expected to publish its full report by the end of July.
