Barclays set to ‘crack open’ UK green bond market

Energy efficiency data released by the UK government has allowed Barclays to launch a green bond framework based on financing environmentally friendly homes.

The green bonds would be senior unsecured liabilities issued from Barclays’ holding company. In this sense they would be “use of proceeds” bonds rather than an instrument secured with environmentally friendly assets, such as a green RMBS or a green covered bond.
