ING Calls In Asian Head For European Role

ING has named Leo Janssen, Asian head of financial markets in Hong Kong, as head of financial markets in the U.K. and chairman of its emerging markets committee. The position was created by the departure of Mark Fisher, global head of foreign exchange, money markets and derivatives and head of financial markets in the U.K., in July. The London-based position is a good opportunity to move back to Europe after a number of years building ING's Asian business, said Belgian-born Janssen. He starts in his new position this week.

Jan Menger, ING's global head of treasury, took on Fisher's U.K. and emerging market duties in an interim role until Janssen's appointment, explained Andy Muncer, spokesman in London. Ted de Vries, member of the executive committee and head of financial markets in Amsterdam, to whom Fisher reported, has adopted the rest of Fisher's responsibilities. No plans are currently afoot to hire someone to take over these tasks, Muncer noted.

Janssen reports to de Vries and Ignor van Waesberghe, head of the U.K., on functional and regional lines, neither of whom returned calls by press time. Janssen's Asian responsibilities have been split between Percy Rueber, head of financial markets in Singapore, who is assuming new responsibilities as regional head, and Mark Newman, head of structured products, who is adding the role of head of financial markets in Hong Kong, explained Sheel Kohli, spokesman in Hong Kong. Both Rueber and Newman report to David Hudson, head of ING in Asia on a regional basis, with functional reporting going to de Vries. Rueber, Newman and Hudson couldn't be reached by press time.
