White & Case has hired Christopher Whiteley, former credit structurer with JPMorgan in London. Whiteley's new role is legal counsel in the law firm's London-based structured finance team. Whiteley will specialize in advising investment banks and fund managers on derivatives transactions, said James Martin, White & Case spokesman. At JPMorgan, Whiteley advised the bank on the legal structure of credit derivatives products, including helping structure debt repayment deals for Parmalat, the collapsed Italian dairy giant. Whiteley was out of the office at a training course and could not be contacted by press time. The structured finance team will likely hire one or two associates in the next few months as part of the firm's continuing expansion in London, said Martin.
