Rafael Berber, former head of the global equity-linked group at Merrill Lynch in London, has been appointed to the new role of vice chairman of global capital markets and financing. Berber was displaced from his previous role following a reorganization that saw Simon Brookhouse, managing director and head of equities for the Pacific Rim in Hong Kong, head to London to take over Berber's responsibilities (DW, 9/14).
"In his new role Berber will be responsible for pursuing new business initiatives across the product spectrum as well as focusing on origination," said Michael DuVally, spokesman in New York. Berber will leverage off his experience in designing innovative solutions for clients, he added. Calls to Berber's office were referred to DuVally.
The newly forged global capital markets and financing group combines Merrill's debt and equity origination activities as well as its corporate finance investment banking function. These groups previously reported into separate divisions.
