RBC Reopens Hong Kong Branch

The Royal Bank of Canada has re-established an office in Hong Kong to market foreign exchange and equity derivatives.

The Royal Bank of Canada has re-established an office in Hong Kong to market foreign exchange and equity derivatives. "The reality is if you want to be a key player in global markets you have to be in this region," said Tony Tse, fx and money market sales in Hong Kong. Tse transferred from London last month, where he handled treasury sales for central banks.

RBC pulled out of Hong Kong in 1999 and serviced clients from other centers, such as Tokyo and Sydney. Tse said the growth in Asia, particularly in China, means it make sense to move back to Hong Kong. Traders are still stationed in other centers.
