A&O is also a firm favorite with dealers in Asia and European dealers said the close relationship between Simon Gleeson's regulatory practice and its derivatives business sets it apart from other international firms.  

Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton

The U.S. firm was nominated principally for its efforts documenting synthetic ABS this year, but also for its regulatory work. "They've been involved in a lot of regulatory efforts and also documentation and bankruptcy code amendments," said one in-house lawyer in New York.

 

Clifford Chance

The London-based firm's derivative practice, under Habib Motani, is a top-tier player in Europe particularly. Several dealers noted the firm has built up a strong business handling hedge fund-linked transactions.

 

Davis Polk

The U.S. firm was nominated by both European and U.S. dealers for its work on ISDA's fund-linked derivatives definitions. The law firm has a strong presence in equity derivatives particularly; one dealer credited the firm with always having its finger on the pulse of this market.

 

Linklaters

Simon Firth, derivatives specialist at the U.K. firm, earned special mention from in-house lawyers and dealers. Linklaters was also seen as a strong player across all European jurisdictions and landed several cites for its German practice.
