SG Corporate & Investment Banking is planning to build up its nascent hedge fund sales business in Asia with additional hires in the coming months. "We're replicating the set-up in Europe and the U.S. and are pushing to offer Asian solutions to hedge funds," said Timothy Bousser, managing director in Hong Kong. Bousser joined over the summer from BNP Paribas in London, to establish a regional hedge fund desk, which market officials said allows the French house to offload volatility on the back of its large structured products and warrants business in the region.
Bousser noted the desk offers traditional cash equities, volatility products and exotic structuring, as well as access products for such markets as India and China. He continued that the firm is looking to recruit a handful of marketers in both Hong Kong and Tokyo for the initiative. "More staff is joining at the moment and the team should be built up by the end of spring," Bousser noted, declining to specify the target size for the desk.
