Jefferies & Company is looking to grow its derivative business to cover over-the-counter trading. Tony Sanfilippo, director of listed trading at Jefferies in New York, said the firm has been concentrating on building up listed single stock and index trading since it started expanding its derivative business last year. The firm is also considering building up a derivative business in London. "I would say that's a drawing board item at the moment," said Sanfilippo.
To kick start its derivatives moves, Jefferies last year hired Daniel Medina and Harry Silver, former senior equity trading heads at Morgan Stanley (DW, 6/13/04). Medina and Silver referred calls to Sanfilippo.
