Barclays Capital has recruited Jason Chu, director and credit derivatives trader at JPMorgan in Tokyo, as a director in Hong Kong for its Asian single-name credit-default swap trading book. Eric Slighton, head of Asia-Pacific credit derivatives in Hong Kong, said the hire is part of the firm's expansion of Asian credit derivatives. Chu, who starts this week, worked at JPMorgan for a decade in both the rates and credit sides of the business. Mika Watanabe, spokeswoman at JPMorgan in Tokyo, did not return messages by press time.
Barclays has been building up its credit business in the region since Slighton joined two years ago (DW, 3/21/04) with a wave of hires in both Hong Kong and Tokyo, despite a set-back when William Pang, credit derivatives trader, quit the firm at the end of last year to re-join Deutsche Bank (DW, 12/2).
