Merrill Adds Two For Sales

Merrill Lynch has continued its sales hiring spree in Asia this year with two new additions.

Merrill Lynch has continued its sales hiring spree in Asia this year with two new additions. Julian Candiah, credit salesman at BNP Paribas in Singapore, joins as a director in the debt client business, focusing on Malaysia and Thailand while Xiao Song Zhang, marketer at Barclays Capital, has joined as a v.p. in equity derivative sales for China, based in Hong Kong, according to firm officials. The moves are seen as part of Merrill's expansion in derivatives across asset classes this year in Asia, for which the firm has made dozens of hires and transfers (DW, 3/31).

Candiah reports to Singapore-based Jay Patel, head of the debt client business for the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, who was traveling. Abhinav Gorawara, managing director in the strategic solutions group in Hong Kong, confirmed Zhang has joined in a new role to focus on the mainland market, declining further comment.

Christine Chan, spokeswoman at BNP, did not respond to messages by press time and Maeve Gallagher, spokeswoman at Barclays Capital, declined comment.
