RBS poaches team from BNP Paribas

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has made three new hires to its Singapore-based market strategy team. Drew Brick now leads the group, with Rob Ryan as director and Gao Qi as vice president.

All three join from BNP Paribas, where Brick was head of currency and interest-rate strategy. Before this he held a similar role at Morgan Stanley, after co-founding US hedge fund GreenRidge Asset Management.

Ryan moves to the role from his position as a currency strategist at BNP Paribas, and Gao previously covered Asia FX and interest rate strategies at the bank. All three resigned from their former positions in May.

StanChart appoints Lee head of client coverage

Patrick Lee has been appointed head of origination and client coverage (OCC) and co-head of wholesale banking, Singapore, at Standard Chartered.

He will be based in Singapore and report to Ray Ferguson, CEO for Singapore and Anand Kumar, regional head of OCC for Southeast Asia.

Lee moves to the bank from Nomura where he was managing director and head of investment banking for Southeast Asia. Before this, he worked at Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley and UBS.

Pei to head China CTS at Citi

Yigen Pei has been promoted to head of transaction services for China at Citi. He will be based in Shanghai, reporting to Andrew Au, CEO for Citi China and Amol Gupte, regional head of Citi transaction services in Asia Pacific.

He was most recently the product head for the treasury and trade solutions team at the bank, and has worked in the financial services sector for more than 20 years, 16 of which were with Citi.

O’Malley to head Canaccord Asia

Peter O’Malley has joined Canaccord Genuity Asia as chief executive officer (CEO). He joins the firm from Kenosis Capital Partners, where he was CEO and founder. His team from Kenosis Capital also joins Canaccord Genuity in Hong Kong.

O’Malley reports to Paul Reynolds, president and CEO of Canaccord Financial, and will work alongside Howard Balloch, chairman of Canaccord Genuity Asia and Alex Tan, CEO of Canaccord Singapore operations, as well as Marcus Freeman, CEO of Canaccord Genuity Australia.

Before founding Kenosis Capital Partners, he was managing director and head of natural resources investment banking in Asia Pacific at Deutsche Bank, then head of resources and energy banking at HSBC. Before this he worked for over ten years at Credit Suisse in New York and Johannesburg.

At Canaccord Genuity he will oversee operations in Hong Kong, China and Singapore.

Collins leaves Nomura for StanChart

Paul Collins, managing director and head of hybrid and structured products trading at Nomura in Singapore has left the bank. He will join Standard Chartered as managing director and head of structured product trading. He replaces Alexis Suzat who left the bank recently.

Collins worked at Standard Chartered between 2009 and 2011 as a director and interest rate trader. Before this he worked for Deutsche Bank for 13 years.

Maguire rejoins UBS

Raymond Maguire has rejoined UBS as head of research and strategy for UBS Thailand. The role was effective in August.

Maguire joined the Swiss bank in London in 1997, and worked there for over 11 years, before joining Transport Investment Fund as CIO for two years, and Tufton Oceanic Limited in Hong Kong as a managing partner. He is now based in Thailand.

Schroders’ Debruyne to head HKIFA

The Hong Kong Investment Funds Association (HKIFA) has named its executive committee members for 2012-2013. Lieven Debruyne, CEO of Schroder Investment Management, Hong Kong will be the chairman.

Bonnie Lam, managing director and head of wholesale business for Asia Pacific at HSBC Global Asset Management takes the position of vice chairman.

The other executive committee members are Allianz Global Investors’ Jenny Yu, Gerry Ng from Baring Asset Management, Johnnie Yung of BlackRock, Carol Wong from BNP Paribas Investment Partners, Bruno Lee from FIL Investment Management, Isabella Chan from Franklin Templeton Investments, Sam Yu from GAM Hong Kong, Invesco’s Desmond Ng, Terry Pan from J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Raymond Kong of Manulife Asset Management.

Eastspring Investments hires Wheeler and Yuen

Piers Wheeler and Mark Yuen have joined Eastspring Investments, the asset management arm of Prudential Corporation Asia, in newly created roles. Both will report to Dean Winterton, head of institutional business at Eastspring.

Wheeler joins the firm as director of institutional business, from AMP Capital, where he was head of institutional business in the Middle East. Before this, he was head of capital markets at DTZ in Bahrain.

Yuen has been appointed director and head of sales for Southeast Asia. Before this he was head of business development at Robeco.

AXA Hong Kong appoints Lestrade chief distribution officer

Xavier Lestrade has been appointed chief distribution officer at AXA China Region Insurance Company (AXA Hong Kong). The newly created role is effective immediately.

Lestrade has worked for the AXA group for 18 years, and was previously global head of distribution, based in France, a role he has been in since 2009. In his new capacity he reports to Stuart Harrison, CEO of AXA in Hong Kong.

Hindmarsh joins Northern Trust

George Hindmarsh has joined Northern Trust as head of Asia Pacific business development. He joins from Citi Transaction Services, where he was director head of the UK investor services product.

In his new role, he will lead a regional sales team for corporate and institutional services, based in Singapore and Australia. He will report to Teresa Parker, CEO for the Asia Pacific region.

ABN Amro hires Julius Baer’s Koo

Jacqueline Koo has joined ABN Amro Private Banking as head of Asian discretionary portfolio management (DPM), a newly created position. She will be based in Hong Kong.

She joins the private bank from Julius Baer, where she was head of portfolio management for North Asia. Before this she was head of investment management at LGT Investment Management.

She will report to Hugues Delcourt, country executive for Singapore and CEO of private banking for Asia and the Middle East. She will also report functionally to Gerben Jorritsma, global head of DPM.

Capstone Partners opens Singapore office

Capstone Partners has opened an office in Singapore, the firm’s first office in Asia. Alexandre Schmitz and Teena Jilka will head up the company’s expansion into the region.

Schmitz joins from the Cobepa Group, where he was an investment director at PAI Partners and CEO of BeCapital. Jilke will be in charge of fundraising and origination in India, and joins from J.P. Morgan’s Alternative Investment Group.

Hyde to head Apac finance at Clifford Chance

Mark Hyde, global head of restructuring and insolvency at Clifford Chance, will relocate to Hong Kong in the role of Asia Pacific finance practice area leader. The role will take effect in 2013. He will also be responsible for the firm’s restructuring and insolvency practice in Asia Pacific.

He takes over from Huw Jenkins, who has been in charge of the finance practice in Asia Pacific since 2001. Jenkins will remain with the firm, with a focus on global projects with the energy and infrastructure group.

Hyde joined Clifford Chance in 1984 and became a partner in 1993.

Man joins MoFo as Beijing partner

Thomas Yunlong Man has joined Morrison and Foerster as a partner in the firm’s Beijing office, from Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe, where he was also a partner based in Beijing.
