Malhotra exits UBS Southeast Asia DCM biz
Raj Malhotra, the Singapore-based executive director, has left UBS after five years.
Malhotra has helped lead UBS’ DCM efforts in Southeast Asia since 2009. The bank has no immediate plans to replace him, according to a spokesperson.
He joined UBS in 2007 where he joined the bank’s Scandinavian DCM team advising Nordic banks on debt funding opportunities in London. Previously, he worked at Goldman Sachs, where he conducted credit research on European banks.
Credit Suisse hires co-heads of investment banking
Chiqui Huang and Johnny Escaler have joined Credit Suisse as co-heads of investment banking in the Philippines, effective immediately. They will report to Vikram Malhotra and Helman Sitohang, co-heads of investment banking for Asia Pacific at the bank.
Huang joined Credit Suisse in 2004, based in Manila. Before this she worked for J.P. Morgan Chase in the investment and corporate banking divisions.
Escaler joins the Swiss bank from Goldman Sachs, where he was an executive director, responsible for the Philippine coverage of fixed income, currencies and commodities, based in Singapore. Before joining Goldman in 2008, he worked at ING Bank Manila as head of financial markets sales.
Barclays hires UBS’ Prabowo
Agung Prabowo has joined Barclays from UBS as head of investment banking in Indonesia. The role is effective later this month. He will report to Matthew Ginsburg, head of investment banking for Asia Pacific and Sandeep Pahwa, head of investment banking for Southeast Asia.
At UBS Indonesia he was executive director. Before this he worked at Mandiri Sekuritas as head of investment banking.
Dave resigns from UBS
Managing director and co-head of emerging markets and Asia macro trading at UBS has resigned from the bank. Mukesh Dave was based in Singapore and traded South and Southeast Asian rates and FX.
He has worked for UBS since July 2010. Before that he was head of Southeast Asia rates trading at Barclays for four years. He has also worked at Citibank in Bangkok and Bahrain.
Emmett appointed head of GTRF at HSBC
James Emmett has been promoted to head of global trade and receivables finance (GTRF) at HSBC. He will report to Alan Keir, group managing director and global head of commercial banking.
He has worked at HSBC for 17 years, in a variety of roles in trade finance, commercial and retail banking and strategy, in Asia Pacific, Europe the Middle East and North America. He moves to the position from his role as head of strategy and planning for commercial banking.
He takes over from Rakesh Bhatia, who will move to another role in HSBC, according to the bank.
Nomura reshuffle continues
Kentaro Okuda, former co-head of investment banking, will become solely responsible for the business following William Vereker appointment as vice chairman.
Speculation suggests that Vereker’s role change is a precursor to his departure from the Japanese bank.
Nomura has also appointed James DeNaut and Charles Pitts-Tucker as joint international heads of investment banking, reporting to Okuda.
BlackRock forms new Asia distribution team
BlackRock is transferring several senior retail staff to Hong Kong as it reorganises its Asian distribution team for iShares, mutual funds and alternative products.
Chang Lin-Yun is moving from Taipei to Hong Kong in October in his capacity as managing director and head of retail for Asia ex Japan. He maintains the same role, but the move highlight’s BlackRock’s increasing focus on retail distribution.
He has worked for BlackRock since 2006, when Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) merged with the firm. He was head of Taiwan at MLIM since 2001.
Heather Pelant is also relocating from the US to Hong Kong, in a newly created role, as managing director and head of retail sales for Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. She will report to Chang.
Pelant joined in 2009 when Barclays Global Investors, where she had worked since 2003, merged with BlackRock. She has also worked at Morgan Stanley Asset Management.
Carnegie joins Blackstone as senior advisor
James Carnegie has joined Blackstone in Sydney as a senior advisor. His primary focus will be the development of the firm’s private equity business in Australia.
He joins from Archer Capital where he worked for seven years until the middle of last year. Before that, he worked at Macquarie Capital.
Barki joins RBC from Sarasin
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Wealth Management has hired Grace Barki as managing director and head of wealth management for Southeast Asia.
She will be based in Singapore and will report to Andrew Turczyniak, head of RBC Wealth Management for Asia.
The role is a new one, and Barki will be responsible for building the Southeast Asia team. She joins from Bank Sarasin, where she was head of Southeast Asia, based in Singapore. She left in June after spending less than two years with the bank. Before that she worked at UBS Wealth Management.
Vanguard hires Luk from PineBridge
Linda Luk has joined Vanguard Investments as Asia head of intermediary distribution.
She joins from PineBridge Investments, where she was head of retail and intermediary channels for Hong Kong and Singapore. In her new capacity she will be based in Hong Kong.
Tham joins Allianz Asia Pacific
Saloon Tham will join Allianz Asia Pacific as the regional head of life insurance, effective October 1. He will report to regional CEO David Fried.
He joins the firm from ACE Life Assurance where he was the regional president for business in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Before this he worked for New York Life Insurance in the US, Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Leopard Capital hires Cambodia CIO
Richard Intrator has joined Leopard Capital in Cambodia as managing partner and chief investment officer (CIO). He replaces Scott Lewis, who resigned from the firm to become head of corporate finance at Oryx Petroleum.
Intrator joins Leopard Capital from Stamford International University in Thailand where he was the executive in residence.
Leitch to lead HK restructuring for DLA Piper
Jonathan Leitch has moved from London to Hong Kong to lead the restructuring team at DLA Piper. He specialises in restructuring, insolvency and workout assignments.
Leitch joined the firm as a trainee in 1998 and became a partner in the restructuring group in 2008. His transfer to Hong Kong follows the October 2011 appointment of Troy Doyle who joined from Norton Rose Australia as a restructuring partner based in Singapore.
Leitch will work alongside senior associate Chai Ridgers in Singapore and contentious insolvency expert Graham Ridler in Hong Kong.
