Planté appointed ANZ Asia Pacific CEO

Gilles Planté, former CEO for Asia at ANZ, has been appointed CEO of Asia Pacific, as the Australian bank merges its Asia and Pacific businesses. He will continue to be based in Hong Kong, and will report to Alex Thursby, CEO of international and institutional banking.

Vishnu Mohan has been appointed CEO Pacific and will report to Planté. He moves to the role from his position as CEO Fiji, a function he will retain. Mohan replaces Michael Rowland, who will remain at ANZ as general manager, transformation, customer experience and business productivity. The changes are effective from November 1.

Planté has worked at ANZ for 15 years, and Mohan joined in 2007 after working for Standard Chartered for over 30 years in a series of senior executive roles, covering the Middle East, North America, Africa, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Singapore.

J.P.Morgan hires heads of Apac DCC and treasury sales

Michael Drumgoole has been appointed head of direct custody and clearing (DCC) for Asia Pacific at J.P. Morgan. He joins from SetClear where he was deputy chief operating officer for five years.

In his new role he reports to Rowena Romulo, global head of DCC. Before working at SetClear, Drumgoole worked at Citi for 19 years, most recently as product development head for Asia.

The bank has also named Lillian Sim regional multi-national corporation (MNC) sales head for Asia Pacific. She is based in Singapore and reports to Margaret Yao, regional sales executive, Asia Pacific for treasury services.

Jennifer Barker has been appointed treasury services regional commercial banking sales head. She is also based in Singapore, reporting to Yao. Hoptenly Tamba has also joined the corporate sales team in Singapore, from ANZ where he was head of trade and supply chain sales.

Tan named Singapore head of consumer banking at OCBC

Dennis Tan will become head of consumer financial services Singapore and group premier banking at OCBC, effective November 1. He joined the bank in September 2009 as head branch and group premier banking.

Before joining OCBC, he worked at Citibank Singapore for 16 years, most recently as managing director, sales and distribution head of global consumer banking. In his new position he reports to Ching Wei Hong, chief operating officer.

StanChart hires Kanthadai from Citi

Sridhar Kanthadai has joined Standard Chartered as regional head of transaction banking for Northeast Asia, based in Hong Kong. The role was effective from October 15.

In his new capacity he reports to Jiten Arora, global head of sales, transaction banking, as well as to Darcy Lai, regional head of origination and client coverage for Northeast Asia. At Citi, he was most recently managing director, head of treasury and trade solutions for Asia Pacific.

Low named country manager of ING Singapore

Catherine Low has been appointed country manager of ING Bank’s Singapore branch, effective November 1. She will report to Mark Newman, CEO of ING commercial banking Asia. Low takes over from Krista Baetens who has been appointed head of commercial banking and CEO of ING Bank Milan.

Low will also continue as regional head of international trade and export finance (ITEF) Asia, reporting to global head of trade and commodity finance Paul van Heerde, and global head of ITEF Paul Dekker. She joined ING in 2003.

UBS in Asia equities hires

Choo-Guan Yeoh has been appointed Singapore head of equities at UBS in addition to her current role as head of Asean client trading and execution (CTE), and Cheryl Lee will take on the role of Singapore head of research, in addition to her current coverage role.

Yeoh joined UBS in 2001 from RHB Securities as a sales trader, and since then has led the Singapore and Malaysia team as well as the Asean and the Hong Kong and China teams. Lee has worked for UBS’ Singapore research team since 2005.

First State hires listed property security team

First State Investments has made four additions to its listed property securities team, following Stephen Hayes rejoining the firm as head of property securities in September.

Tuan Pham is also rejoining the company, as a Sydney-based senior portfolio manager, specialising in Asian property securities. He moves from Perennial Real Estate Investments, where he was head of Asia. Joseph Daguio also rejoins the firm as an investment analyst for the Asia Pacific region, also based in Sydney. In Europe, Daniela Lungu and Boudewijn van Loen are joining the team as senior portfolio managers.

Antoinette Plater, senior portfolio manager based in Sydney and investment analyst Miranda Moran based in Hong Kong have both left the firm.

Young joins Schroders as head of institutional sales

Schroders has hired Alan Young as Hong Kong head of institutional sales, from State Street Global Advisors, where he was head of sales for North Asia, focusing on Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea.

In his new role he reports to Kelvin Lee, Hong Kong head of institutional business, effective from September. Before State Street, Young worked at Barclays, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Merrill Lynch and HSBC.

AXA IM hires EM Asia economist

Qi Sun has joined AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) as an emerging Asia economist, based in Hong Kong. Sun joins from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) where he was an economist specialising in the Chinese economy and financial reform.

At AXA IM he will report to Franz Wenzel, chief strategist at the firm, based in Paris.

Chien joins Barclays from EFG

Adeline Chien has joined Barclays private banking team as a managing director in Hong Kong, covering ultra-high net work individuals (UHNWIs). She will report to Rickie Chan, market head of Hong Kong.

She moves from EFG Bank, also in Hong Kong, where she was team head of high net worth clients in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Before this, she worked for UBS and Goldman Sachs. The appointment follows that of Chan, who was named market head of Hong Kong in August.

Shipman to head corporate Apac at Clifford Chance

Mark Shipman will become head of corporate practice in Asia Pacific at Clifford Chance, effective January 2013. He will also continue to lead the firm’s global funds and investment management team.

He replaces Roger Denny who is stepping down from the role after ten years, but will continue as head of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for Asia Pacific. Shipman joined the firm in 1991 and has been a partner since 2001.
