SC’s Corbett takes on West Africa role

Charles Corbett, former head of South Asia capital markets at Standard Chartered, is leaving Asia for a new role covering West Africa.

Veteran Standard Chartered banker Charles Corbett will relocate from Mumbai to London to cover West Africa at the bank in a loans role.

In November it was announced his role of regional head of South Asia capital markets would be taken over by Rahul Banerjee, who joined Standard Chartered from Nomura in January this year.

Corbett remained in Mumbai to oversee the changeover, and it was understood he would remain with the bank in another role. He will move to London later this week.

He has been regional head of South Asia capital markets since June 2011, and before this he was managing director and regional head of syndications for South Asia at the bank.

Banerjee’s hire was announced amid a shake-up of loans and bonds chiefs at the bank, which saw Cristian Jonsson replace Philip Cracknell as head of the Asian loans business, and Justin Crane join from Credit Suisse as global head of loan distribution.

Jonsson’s former role as head of global bond syndicate was taken on by Aaron Russell-Davison. Banerjee joined as head of South Asia capital markets and Daniel Berman also joined from J.P. Morgan to head Africa capital markets, effective January. He is based in Johannesburg and reports to Henrik Raber, global head of DCM. Cracknell is retiring.

In his new role, Banerjee reports directly to Carsten Stoehr, global head of capital markets.

A spokesperson for Standard Chartered declined to comment on Corbett's move.
