  • Gulf Finance House has reported net profit of $5.7m for the first half of the year, up from $700,000 in the same period last year. The investment bank earned $4.7m of that in the second quarter – an improvement on the $11.2m loss it registered in Q2 2011, with much of this arising from management fees and debt restructuring.
  • Saudi Arabia's National Commercial Bank ( NCB ) has agreed what is thought to be the world's first Islamic structured international airport financing for the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Medina. The airport will cost an estimated SR4.5bn ($1.2bn) to build, a large part of which NCB will provide through senior participation and an equity bridge loan.
  • Russian electricity firm ES Vostoka has approached the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for a loan of up to Rb4bn ($126.1m).
  • Bahrain’s Investcorp has closed a $529m-equivalent multicurrency refinancing facility from international and local lenders.
  • Qatar Gas Transport Co (Nakilat) has agreed $380m of Islamic financing with banks. Qatar International Islamic Bank provided $200m of the murabaha facility, while Qatar Islamic Bank provided the other $180m. Pricing details are not yet known.
  • Reliance Industries has delayed the commitment deadline of a $1.5bn dual-tranche loan, giving more banks time to consider what is by far the biggest deal on offer among a recent spree of loans from Indian borrowers.
