The euro public sector bond market got off to a bang in 2021, with issuers building their biggest ever order books, despite pricing deals with their lowest ever yields and small new issue premiums.

Borrowers stormed in with mandates on Monday — the first day back of the new year — buoyed by a strong market backdrop in euros, fuelled by hopes of mass rollouts of coronavirus vaccines and the ECB’s support through its purchase programmes.
