EBA questions logic of national countercyclical buffers

José Manuel Campa, chairperson of the European Banking Authority, suggested on Monday that countercyclical capital buffers could be more effective if they were set in a harmonious way across jurisdictions.

Campa was speaking at an event organised by the Italian Banking Association. 

He praised regulators for having responded very quickly to the coronavirus crisis this year, by relaxing capital requirements and encouraging banks to lend to the real economy.
