Santander: Orcel recorded private conversations

Banco Santander felt vindicated in cancelling Andrea Orcel’s appointment as group chief executive when it later found out that he had been recording conversations without permission, the Spanish bank said in a statement on Friday.

The Spanish bank said it has learnt through a lawsuit filing by Orcel that on January 12 — before Santander cancelled his appointment three days later — the Italian banker started recording private conversations without the other party’s knowledge.
