Banks threatened by downgrade after S&P methodology update

Ratings for several financial institutions have been placed under criteria observation (UCO) by Standard & Poor’s after the rating agency updated its risk-adjusted capital framework criteria for credit risk for the first time since 2010.

The banks that have issuer credit and issue ratings under criteria observation include Abanca, Santander, Bank of Ireland, BNP Paribas, CaixaBank, Commerzbank, mBank, ING Bank, Jefferies, MUFG, Nationwide, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and UniCredit.
