Richard Caplan, credit market veteran and North American head of the collateralized debt obligation group at Citigroup in New York, has taken a position at RBS Greenwich. He has reportedly joined in a similar role, heading up the group's growing synthetic and cash CDO business.
Caplan is well-known in the market and has been involved since its early days when he was at Salomon Smith Barney. In 2002, he testified before Congress during the Enron hearings, explaining how a series of deals originated by Citi worked. Calls to Caplan and a spokesman at RBS and were not returned by press time.
It could not be determined if Caplan--who had three months gardening leave--has been replaced at Citi. Spokespeople at the firm did not respond to messages by press time.
