It takes a lot of energy to keep a bank running and a lot of air conditioning to keep bankers cool underneath those stuffy suits (not that anyone wears suits anymore). No problem for Credit Suisse, which keeps giant vats of ice in the basement to keep its computers and employees cool throughout the day. According to an article from CNNMoney.com, Credit Suisse has 64 neoprene ice storage tanks below the "gleaming trading floors" that produce ice in the evening hours when electricity is cheaper and then uses it to cool the building the following day by pumping it into a cooling system. Apparently it is the bank's way of staying "green," but perhaps it's just another money saving scheme along with black and white photocopies. Maybe the next step will be to have interns trek down to fill up everyone's Nalgenes to save money on the office water cooler. A call to a CS spokesman was not returned by press time.
