The Royal Bank of Scotland has hired Philippe Avril, manager in the investment banking division at Commerzbank in Frankfurt, in a senior role in Tokyo overlooking the Japanese market. "It's the market I know best," said Avril, who had spent 14 years in Tokyo, and is the author of a book entitled Japanese Equity Derivatives.
Prior to his transfer to Germany three years back, Avril was the business manager for Commerzbank Securities in Tokyo. He declined to comment on his exact position as the details are still being finalized. Market officials said Avril is assuming the duties of Pierre Ferland, now the global head of financial institutions in London, who transferred from Tokyo last year (DW, 9/17).
