Nomura Retools Equity Desk

Nomura Securities has restructured its equity derivatives desk in Asia ex-Japan following recent senior transfers.

Nomura Securities has restructured its equity derivatives desk in Asia ex-Japan following recent senior transfers. Akihiko Yajima, senior marketer in Seoul, has relocated to Hong Kong in a new role as co-head of equity derivatives for Asia ex-Japan.

Yajima said he will now oversee cash and equity derivatives trading for the region and assumes responsibilities from Toru Ichimura, who has relocated to Tokyo to run the equity derivatives trading desk for the Japanese market. Yajima continued that previously the equity derivatives desk was part of the cash equity unit but has now been separated, allowing the firm to closer focus on building the derivatives effort for such markets as Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan and Australia. He co-heads the group alongside John Robson, head of sales, based in Hong Kong.

Yajima noted he had previously worked on the trading side prior to derivative sales roles in Seoul and Tokyo.
