BoA-Merrill names global head of sales for FIs and large corporates
Percy Batliwalla will become global head of sales for large corporates and financial institutions at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, according to an internal memo posted by Paul Simpson, head of global transaction services (GTS). He will be based in Singapore, reporting to Simpson.
He moves to the role from his position as head of Asia Pacific GTS sales, and he takes over from Jennifer Boussuge. During his career, Batliwalla has worked in corporate banking, corporate finance, structured trade and corporate audit.
Louie to head Asia ex-Japan property research at Barclays
Paul Louie has been appointed head of property sector research for Asia ex-Japan at Barclays. He will lead the team across the region, with personal coverage responsibility for Hong Kong developers and landlords. He will report to Jon Scoffin, head of research for Asia Pacific, and will be based in Hong Kong.
He joins the bank from Nomura, where he was managing director, regional head of property research for Asia Pacific. Before Nomura he held senior positions in property research at Lehman Brothers Asia where he was also responsible for managing the regional team, and at UBS where he was a director covering the Hong Kong property sector.
Barclays has also hired Alvin Wong as a director in the property sector for Asia ex-Japan equity research. Wong joins from Nomura and will lead coverage for the China property sector, reporting to Louie. Wong was executive director, China property research at Nomura and has also worked at HSBC and Bear Stearns.
Buerge to lead separately managed accounts at BNY Mellon
Alex Buerge has been named head of investments and managing director for BNY Mellon’s Asia Pacific separately managed accounts (SMA) business, which is expected to launch before the end of the year.
The business received approval from the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in June 2013 and will be the first of its kind in Asia. Buerge will report to AJ Harper, president and CEO of BNY Mellon’s Asia Pacific managed accounts business and will be based in Hong Kong.
He joins the firm from Credit Suisse where he worked for 23 years, most recently as global head of international locations for the bank’s multi-asset class solutions business in Switzerland. During his time at the Swiss bank he also worked in Singapore as head of Asia Pacific and the Middle East for discretionary mandates and portfolio management.
J.P. Morgan hires head of trade finance securitisation
Kah Chye Tan will join the bank as managing director and global head of trade finance securitisation, responsible for the structuring of distribution alternatives for trade finance assets. He will work with the global trade and markets teams, and will be based in London, effective November 1.
He joins from Barclays, where he was most recently vice chairman of corporate banking, responsible for advising the bank on trade strategy and working across global treasury and credit products.
Before this he was global head of trade and working capital at Barclays, after spending six years as global head of corporate trade and cash at Standard Chartered. He has also worked at Deutsche Bank, J.P. Morgan Chase and Citibank in various locations across Europe and Asia.
Nomura adds to global market sales team
Abhijit Shrivastava has joined Nomura’s global markets division as an executive director, based in Mumbai, according to an internal memo. He will cover credit distribution and will report to Neeraj Gambhir, head of fixed income for India and Samir Bhandari, head of local markets institutional sales.
He joins Nomura from Deutsche Bank, where he spent four years working on local and foreign currency loans distribution to onshore and foreign banks based in India. Before this he worked on the loan syndication and corporate financing desk at Citibank.
BNP Paribas IP appoints head of Apac and EM
Ligia Torres has been appointed to a new role overseeing Asia Pacific and all new markets as head of Asia Pacific and emerging markets for BNP Paribas Investment Partners (BNPP IP) and Vincent Camerlynck has been appointed CEO for Asia Pacific.
Torres joins from BNP Paribas Wealth Management where she was head of the UK arm. She has worked in financial markets for 30 years. She will be based in London, reporting to BNPP IP’s CEO Philippe Marchessaux.
Camerlynck has been based in Hong Kong since 2012 and moves to the position from his role as deputy CEO for the firm. In his new role he will report to Torres. Before he moved to Hong Kong he was based in London, responsible for institutional sales globally.
Yuen to head HK wholesale distribution at Natixis
Natixis Global Asset Management (NGAM) has hired Davy Yuen as director, head of wholesale distribution, in Hong Kong, effective from September 9.
He reports to Madeline Ho, head of wholesale distribution for Asia Pacific and managing director of NGAM Singapore. Ho joined the firm in January from Fidelity Worldwide Investments, and is based in Singapore. NGAM opened its Hong Kong office in 2012.
The role is a new one, and Yuen is responsible for new business development and client relationship management. He joins from Man Investments in Hong Kong where he was an executive director, responsible for wholesale and institutional business in greater China. Before this he worked for UBS Global Asset Management, Invesco Asset Management and Janus International.
Asia business development MD joins PineBridge
Yoohee Won has joined PineBridge Investments as managing director, business development for the Asia region. For the position, which is a new one for the firm, he will be based in Hong Kong, reporting to Rajeev Mittal, Asia Pacific CEO.
Won has worked in the financial services industry for 14 years. Before joining PineBridge he was CEO of BNY Mellon Asset Management Korea. Before this he worked for Samsung Investment Trust Management and Samsung Fire and Marine Insurance company.
Yibing takes over as head of China at Temasek
Wu Yibing will become head of China at Temasek, effective from October 1. He will succeed Ding Wei, who will become advisory senior director for China at the Singaporean investor on the same date.
Wu will work alongside Chia Song Hwee, Temasek’s co-head for China. He is currently chairman and CEO of Goldstone Investment Company, the investment arm of China’s CITIC Securities, and is also the president of CITIC Private Equity Funds Management. He began his career with McKinsey and stayed with the firm to become senior partner and head of Asia Pacific M&A.
Ding has requested to work in an advisory role so that he is free to pursue other interests, according to a Temasek spokesperson.
Resources lawyer joins Clifford Chance in Perth
Sam Luttrell has joined Clifford Chance as a senior associate in the firm’s Perth office. He specialises in commercial arbitration in the energy and resources sector, as well as foreign investment disputes under bilateral and multilateral investment treaties.
Luttrell started his career at Perth firm Kott Gunning before joining Allens Arthur Robinson in early 2009. He moved to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Paris office in 2011.
