ANZ appoints HK loans head

Ivy Pang has joined ANZ as head of origination, loan syndication for Hong Kong – a newly created position. Before joining the Australian bank, she was a director of DCM at HSBC and head of fixed income for Hang Seng Bank, covering Hong Kong and southern China.

She has more than 20 years experience in corporate banking, loan syndication and DCM origination. In her new role she will report to Chris Raciti, head of loan syndications for Northeast Asia.

Andersen to lead Asia at DNB Bank

Vidar Andersen will head up the Asia region for shipping and energy lender DNB Bank. He is based in Singapore, effective immediately.

Andersen joined the bank in 2011 and worked in Oslo and New York as well as Shanghai. He replaces Erik Borgen who has been in the position since 2004, and has worked for DNB for 34 years in Oslo, New York and Singapore.

He moves from his position as head of China, based in Shanghai. His role will be taken by Mats Wermelin, who has been head of corporate banking for Sweden for the past seven years.

MS hires Asia fixed income researchers

Geoff Kendrick and Kewei Yang have joined Morgan Stanley’s regional macro research team. Kendrick joins as head of Asian FX and local rates strategy and Yang will focus on Asia Pacific interest rate strategy, reporting to Kendrick, who in turn will report to Viktor Hjort, head of Asia fixed income research.

Both will be based in Hong Kong and join as executive directors. Kendrick most recently worked for Nomura in London where he was head of European FX strategy. Yang joins from Nomura in Singapore, and is an expert on China’s fixed income markets.

Luo to head HK China equities at Barings

Laura Luo will take on the role of head of Hong Kong China equities at Baring Asset Management, effective September 12. She will report to Wilfred Sit, chief investment officer for Asia and will be based in Hong Kong. Luo replaces Agnes Deng who has left the company.

Winston Ke who currently works on the China A-share product, will become sole lead manager on all China A-share portfolios, effective immediately. He will report to Luo.

Luo has worked in Hong Kong China equities for more than 17 years. She joins Barings from Schroder Investment Management where she worked for over 12 years. Since 2012 she has been lead manager on several Hong Kong China equity funds.

Ke joined Barings in April 2010 from First State Cinda Asset Management in Shenzhen, where he covered China A-share markets.

Coutts in Indonesia hire

Coutts has named Watty Buwanawati as executive director, business development for the Indonesia market, with immediate effect.

She will be based in Singapore, reporting to Jacqueline Chua, managing director, market head for Southeast Asia. She has worked in banking and financial services for more than 21 years.

Most recently she headed the private wealth management business for Deutsche Bank in Indonesia. She has also worked at ANZ Panin Bank and American Express Bank in Indonesia.

Lombard Odier appoints Asia COO and CRO

Fred Horsey joined Lombard Odier as co-chief operating officer (COO) and general counsel for Asia Pacific in August on September 1.

Meanwhile, Christophe Morel, who is currently part of Lombard Odier’s internal audit unit, will move from Geneva to become the chief risk officer (CRO) for Asia Pacific.

Both will be based in Hong Kong and report to Vincent Duhamel, head of Lombard Odier Asia Pacific. Both positions are new roles.

Horsey will work alongside Singapore-based co-COO Hansreudi Kern. He has lived and worked in Asia for more than 15 years. Before joining the firm he held similar roles at Barclays Global Investors and Janus Capital. He was also head of product development at J.P. Morgan Asset Management in Asia for seven years.

Morel has worked for the firm since 2000. Before this he held internal auditing positions at HSBC Republic Bank (Suisse) and UBS.

Former CS banker launches investment firm

Alberto Migliucci, former head of energy, oil and gas and mining in Asia at Credit Suisse, has set-up a boutique capital and advisory firm with a focus on natural resources deals in Asia.

Petra Commodities opened on August 29, with offices in Jakarta, Singapore and Sydney. Its staff include Asian based ex-senior bankers, Marcel Kreis, former head and chairman of Asia Pacific private banking for Credit Suisse and Cosimo Damiano, former head of Australia Oil and Gas equities for Merrill Lynch.

Müller to head North Asia WM at Rothschild

Alois Müller will take on the role of managing director and head of wealth management for North Asia at Rothschild Wealth Management, based in Hong Kong, effective September 2. He and his team will be responsible for building the business across Northeast Asia.

He joins Rothschild after working for UBS for 35 years, in Zurich, London, New York and most recently Hong Kong, where he was head of ultra high net worth for several Asian countries. In the past, he has worked in wealth management as well as structured and corporate finance.
