It’s hard to get a break in HK

Going for meetings in Hong Kong is stressful enough, but as I recently learned, it is not just traffic that one has to watch out for.

An out-of-town friend flew in some weeks ago to do the roadshow circuit, and over drinks he enlightened me about a practice that is now prevalent. These days, one must not only navigate a tightly packed schedule, but toilets too.

You see, in Hong Kong, entry into a bathroom at most banks requires a key. That means you not only have 15 minutes to rush to the next appointment, but also need to make a beeline to obtain said keys and squeeze in with a bunch of impatient bankers.

I never experienced this, given I always had access to the VIP bathroom. But my poor friend has too often found himself having to control his bladder for lack of time.

Of course, his misery called for another round of drinks. Luckily, the pub toilets were close at hand.
