VTB Capital has hired a head of Asia high yield trading as it continues the build out of its Asian operations.
Daren Wong started on Monday, September 3. Before joining the VTB Capital team, he was the head of credit trading at the Bank of China in Hong Kong and prior to that was responsible for Asia high yield trading at Morgan Stanley. He has also held various positions in the Asian divisions at banks including J.P. Morgan Securities, Société Générale and Barclays Capital.
Wong will be based in Hong Kong and will report functionally to Ugo Calcagnini, global head of credit trading at VTB Capital, and regionally to Damian Chunilal, CEO Asia for VTB Capital.
VTB Capital has said it plans to accelerate the expansion of its Asia business since it hired former Merrill Lynch banker Chunilal as its CEO for the region in January.
Just last month, Roger Suyama joined as head of Indonesia with responsibility for corporate and investment coverage, reporting to Chunilal.
Meanwhile, Chunilal told the Wall Street Journal in July that he was looking to grow his team this year, particularly in the areas of debt and principal financing.
