Barclays head of syndicate Lee exits
Kenneth Lee, head of syndicate Asia for Barclays, has left the bank to set up a hedge fund, with a focus on Asian credit.
Lee left the bank early last week and has moved from Singapore to Hong Kong to launch his new venture, though the details are not yet confirmed. He joined the bank in 2003 in Hong Kong as an associate director on the syndicate team. He was promoted in 2007 to managing director of the debt syndicate team.
He has not yet been replaced, but sources suggest that Ken Wei Wong, director on the debt syndicate team, is a candidate. Lee reported to Mark Bamford, global head of fixed income syndicate for Barclays in New York.
MS appoints co-heads of Asia ECM
Justin Haik, head of equity capital markets (ECM) for Asia at Morgan Stanley, will take on a newly created senior client relationship role for the Asia Pacific region. He has worked for Morgan Stanley for fifteen years, in New York, Singapore and Hong Kong.
He will be replaced by Jerome Leleu and Mille Cheng, who will become co-heads of Asia Pacific ECM. Leleu joined the bank in 1998 and was most recently head of ECM for Southeast Asia. Cheng re-joins the bank from Barclays, where she was head of ECM for greater China.
In addition, Alex Abagian will take over as head of ECM syndicate for Asia. He has worked in ECM, equity-linked origination and syndication in both Europe and Asia Pacific.
CS names co-heads of Asia ex-China FIG
Danny Chung and Peter Yeung will take responsibility for the Asian financial institution coverage (non-China) at Credit Suisse, effective immediately. They will take over from Nicolo Salsano, who recently became the head of German and Australian investment banking. Simon Yuan will continue in his role as head of Financial Institutions Group (FIG) coverage for China.
Both Chung and Yeung are based in Hong Kong and will report regionally to Joe Gallagher, Asia Pacific head of M&A.
Chung joined the bank in 2005 and has focused exclusively on the financial institutions sector. In 2009 he relocated to Hong Kong from New York to cover pan-Asian insurance and Korean financial institutions.
Yeung joined Credit Suisse’s FIG group in 2007 and most recently focused on Hong Kong based financial institutions and the pan-Asian banking sector, excluding Korea and mainland China.
J.P. Morgan’s Koh to head Asia banking at Westpac
David Koh has been named head of corporate and institutional banking, Asia, at Australian lender Westpac. He will be based in Singapore and will report jointly to Bala Swaminathan, general manager for Asia and Andrew McDonald, general manager of corporate and institutional banking.
Koh joins from J.P. Morgan where he was managing director, treasury services for greater China. Before this he worked at Deutsche Bank in Shanghai and has also worked at HSBC.
In addition, Paul Gardner will become global head of Westpac’s structured commodity finance business and Andrew Billing will take over Asian institutional FX sales.
Gardner was most recently managing director, regional head of structured trade and export finance at Deutsche Bank. Billing also joins from Deutsche Bank, where he was head of FX sales, institutional client group, Australasia.
England takes on fixed income role at ANZ
Grant England will take on a new dual role at ANZ, working alongside the loans syndication and fixed income global sales teams. He will focus on the distribution of loans and structured products to institutional investors.
England is based in Sydney and was previously a relationship director in the utilities and infrastructure business, according to a memo seen by Asiamoney PLUS.
The role was effective from May 20 and he will report to Sean Joseph, head of Australian loan syndications and Chris Pashley, global head of fixed income sales.
In addition, the Australian bank has hired two analysts on its Asia Pacific loans syndications team. Benson Yau joined the Hong Kong team on May 20. Nai Yu Goh was appointed in Singapore last month.
EdR AM hires head of China equities
Xing Hu has joined Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management as the head of Chinese equities. He will be based in Hong Kong and will report to the head of global emerging markets and commodities, Thomas Gerhardt.
Hu began his career in France in 1996 at Atlas Gestion as a fund manager focused on Asia ex-Japan. In 2008 he moved to Beijing to join Manulife TEDA Asset Management as head of the global investment division. He also took charge of the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors (QFII) advisory business.
Lim to head Apac business development at Aviva
Lim Beng Eu will take on the newly created role of head of business development for Asia Pacific at Aviva Investors. He will focus on financial institution and institutional sales and will report to Pat O’Brien, chief executive of the Americas and Asia Pacific.
Lim joined Aviva Investors in 2011 and has headed up the institutional business development team since then.
