French to discover if markets still function

Corporate bond markets face a critical test of investor sentiment with several companies seeking to issue debt in the face of bewildering turbulence in European markets.

Key indicators were better on Wednesday morning, perhaps because, as dealers said, the European Central Bank had been buying government bonds more aggressively than usual. Italy’s 10 year yield has come down from above 7% to about 6.85%, while French yields fell by about 10bp.
