Investors scold HSBC over coal financing policy

A group of investors has published a letter urging HSBC to pull away from financing the coal industry, warning that these activities will leave the bank dangerously exposed to climate-related financial risks.

Schroders, Hermes EOS and EdenTree were among the HSBC shareholders that signed the letter addressed to John Flint, the bank’s CEO, on Wednesday.

Ethos, a Swiss foundation promoting sustainable development, was also listed as a co-signatory, though it does not own any shares in HSBC.
