Solomon to replace Blankfein as Goldman boss

Goldman Sachs announced on Tuesday that chief executive and chairman Lloyd Blankfein will retire, and David Solomon will replace him in both roles.

The move had been widely expected following a succession struggle earlier this year. Harvey Schwartz, a former chief financial officer and Goldman lifer, resigned, after seeking reassurance about his place in the Goldman pecking order, and Solomon was left as sole president of the firm.
