Ian Gilday, managing director and head of leveraged loan capital markets at Merrill Lynch in London, has left the firm. An official close to Gilday said he will be joining Goldman Sachs in London as a managing director in leveraged loan capital markets, reporting to Doug Henderson and Tim Flynn, co-heads of leveraged finance. Gilday has left Merrill and could not be reached; Henderson and Flynn did not return calls.

Gilday has been a prominent player in the European leveraged finance markets since the early 1990s, joining Merrill in 1999 to focus on leveraged buy-outs and notably working on the LBO of U.K. chemicals company Ineos Group. He started his leveraged finance career at NatWest and moved to Deutsche Bank in 1997.

At Merrill, Gilday reported to Andrew McCullagh, European head of leveraged finance. McCullagh did not return calls.
