Japan's Shinsei Bank has hired Stuart Baker, managing director and Asian head of debt markets at ING Financial Markets in Singapore, in a new role in Tokyo as general manager and head of fixed income trading. Baker, who starts in the coming weeks, could not be reached. At Shinsei, Baker will report to Dan Schireman, head of fixed income and capital markets in Tokyo. Schireman was out of the office at press time and could not be reached. Yoshi Nakagawa, spokesman at Shinsei, declined comment.
Market officials said Baker wanted to return to the Land of the Rising Sun, having headed up the fixed income desk for ING in Japan prior to relocating to Singapore earlier this year. Late last year the bank began centralizing its regional markets business in Singapore and transferred staff from Hong Kong and Tokyo (DW, 12/2). At ING, Baker reported to Percy Rueber, Asian head of financial markets in the Lion City. Rueber did not return calls.
