Eksport Kredit Fonden, the Danish export credit agency, is searching for potential counterparties for a credit swap. EKF has entered a similar swap with Sweden's credit agency (DW, 3/4/02) and is in talks with the Dutch credit agency about a potential deal.
Lars Kolte, managing director of EKF in Copenhagen, said, "We have an open offer with our friends in other countries." Some export agencies, however, are holding back because they are concerned about the political risk of using tax payers' money for someone else's export risk, explained Kolte.
The Dutch agency is waiting for a regulation change that will allow it to enter this kind of swap, he added. Marijke van Hooren, spokeswoman for Atradius, which is responsible for the sovereign Dutch export credit business, said the timing of the regulatory change is uncertain and she declined to give details of any possible trade.
