Merrill Lynch is preparing to launch market-access products on Vietnamese equities following licensing for the emerging stock market. Equity officials at the firm said the U.S. house last month received a trading code from the Vietnam Securities Depository, which allows the firm to trade local stocks that can be used as underlying for offshore market-access derivatives for international clients.
The nascent stock market, which was launched in 2000, has attracted interest from global players. Last year Citigroup began offering access products on domestic stocks in Vietnam. Market-access structures have proved popular for other markets such as China and India.
