MORLEY FUND MANAGEMENT
| Ilad Farah |
Morley wins the award for its trail-blazing use of equity derivatives across its funds. Dealers praised the firm for demonstrating to rivals the value of derivatives and for investing significantly to battle the derivatives fear-factor. Its partnership with Barclays Capital has produced the Global Distribution Fund and the Global Cautious Income Fund, managed by Ilad Farah and Tom Wills in London. While the call-overwriting strategy the funds run is nothing new, it is ground-breaking in that the funds target retail investors rather than institutions, said dealers.
The manager, with over GBP157 billion (USD299 billion) under management, has also made a substantial commitment to increasing its use of derivatives this year. This is shown partly by investing in training for staff and hiring a senior sellside lawyer, David Barbour, to provide dedicated in-house legal and documentation support for derivatives transactions.
