Barclays and Banco Popolare loosen Franco-German grip
Banco Popolare this morning launched a Eu1bn seven year issue, the first Italian benchmark covered bond of the year and the first from a southern European jurisdiction since the onset of concerns about peripheral sovereigns. The deal follows a Eu1bn 12 year issue for Barclays Bank yesterday that was the first benchmark other than those from France and Germany in nearly a month.
