Profits slide at Santander and BBVA despite LatAm strength

Santander this week reported a year on year drop of 4.8% in attributable profit for the first quarter of 2011, posting a figure of Eu2.11bn. It attributed the change to higher tax pressure and greater minority interests — but it also emphasised growth in its domestic retail business.
