TAIWAN - Warmer ties with China won't solve Taiwan's troubles

The island's new president, Ma Ying-jeou, was ushered into office on a wave of pro-China sentiment and has quickly set about improving cross-strait relations. But while the mainland offers the prospect of prosperity in the long term, only domestic reform can turn Taiwan's economy around. Greater infrastructure spending and improvements to the services sector will be key. Pamela Tang reports.
