Sick of Greek dramas? Stressed out over bank tests? We present The Derivatives, a rock cover band of financial professionals, to bring relief to frazzled readers. Their financial takes on popular tunes are sure to bring a smile to your face. Take a gander at their rendition of the AC/DC classic “You Shook Me All Night Long”:
“There was a UCITS one
But then they skipped the two
The three was voted by the Euro crew.
Now we’ve got the four
‘Cause we asked for more
So the KIID is gonna be the law.
So if you can't decide and you've got nothing to hide
Jump on the UCITS train and enjoy the ride.”
Chorus: “U-CITS me all night long
Yeah U-CITS me all night long.”
You can thank Troy Bankhead, head of marketing and communication at KNEIP, a service provider to the fund industry in Luxembourg, for founding the band a couple of years ago. Bankhead plays the keyboard and provides backing vocals. Louis Wright, a salesman also at KNEIP, provides lead vocals. Ulrich Sporri, assistant v.p. at financial services company Citco, will play drums for the group next year, replacing the current drummer who does not work in financial services. They are also looking for a financial whiz-cum-guitarist.
“Everyone’s either directly or indirectly involved with derivatives in the fund industry,” Bankhead said.
The band has played for appreciative audiences at the cocktail hour of conferences such as the FundForum International. In August, the Derivatives are headed to the studio to record their songs. “Ratings on Fire” (a nod to the Kings of Leon) and “Like a Hedge Fund,” the lounge-calypso version of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” will soon be coming to a YouTube channel near you.
