Taiwan bank move means China deals are the only game in town

Chinese banks can now buy stakes in Taiwanese financial institutions, after a change in the law from the island this week. That is an encouraging move from mainland banks hungry to increase their overseas exposure — but it has also sparked complaints that banking consolidation in Taiwan is effectively dead and buried.
