Arsenin to head Barclays EM Asia rates strategy
Barclays has appointment Igor Arsenin as managing director and head of emerging Asia interest rates strategy, based in Singapore.
In his new role, Arsenin will be responsible for leading the company’s Latin American and EMEA local markets rates strategy teams and will report to Nigel Chalk, head of emerging Asia research.
Arsenin worked for Credit Suisse for 16 years, where his most recent role was head of Latin America fixed income strategy in New York.
UBS’ Gore leaves for BoA-Merrill
Stephen Gore has left UBS to join Bank of America-Merrill Lynch as head of Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) mergers & acquisitions (M&A).
Gore will based in Hong Kong and lead the M&A business in the region and will report to Jayanti Bajpai and Jiro Seguchi, co-heads of Asia Pacific corporate & investment banking, and Adrian Mee, head of international M&A.
Gore had worked for UBS since 1993, where he started his career in its London base then relocated to Asia in 2005. He was most recently head of M&A and corporate finance.
Smith leaves Goldman Australia
Sydney-based Curtis Smith has left Goldman Sachs as one of its managing directors.
Formerly, he was responsible for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the bank. According to Goldman Sachs spokeswoman, Smith has made a personal decision to leave the office and coverage will be assumed by other sector teams.
Based on reports, Smith joined the Wall Street bank four years ago based in its Sydney office. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he had worked at UBS and Port Jackson Partners.
Kim named head of FI sales for Apac at J.P. Morgan
J.P. Morgan Treasury Services has appointed Kiat Seng Lim as head of financial institutions (FI) sales for Asia Pacific.
Based in Singapore, in his new role Lim will head the firm’s FI client and sales strategy across both the bank and non-bank financial institution sectors for cash management and trade finance in Asia Pacific and he will report to Margaret Yao, regional sales executive at the firm.
Lim joined from Deutsche Bank, where he spent 12 years, most recently as co-head of cash management, financial institutions for the global transaction banking division in Asia Pacific. Before that, he held a number of managerial positions at Banco do Brasil, Union Bank of California, Royal Bank of Canada and OCBC Bank.
Deutsche reshuffles its trust and securities services
Deutsche Bank’s global transaction banking division has promoted Jacqueline William as head of direct securities services for Deutsche Bank (Malaysia) and Chua Mee Ling as chief executive officer of Deutsche Trustees Malaysia. Both roles were effective as of July.
William will be responsible for leading the bank’s direct securities services division in Malaysia while Chua will oversee the bank’s local trustee services business, responsible for both domestic and international clients. Chua and William will both report to Mrugank Paranjape, Asia Pacific head of trust & securities services/cash management for financial institutions and regional head of direct securities services for the bank’s global transaction banking division, and Raymond Yeoh, the bank’s chief country officer in Malaysia.
William has been with Deutsche Bank for 17 years while Chua has spent 14 years at Deutsche.
BNY Mellon appoints Schulte as head of investment strategy
Paul Schulte has become head of investment strategy for Asia-Pacific (Apac) at BNY Mellon, a new role to track investment trends, market activity and economics in the region.
Schulte will focus on developing an Apac investment and market knowledge platform and will jointly report to Alan Harden, chief executive officer for BNY Mellon’s Asia-Pacific investment management business and Jack Malvey, chief global market strategist for investment management.
His most recent role was global head of financial strategy at China Construction Bank International Securities. Before that, Schulte has been with several Asia banks as managing director and head of multi-strategy.
Chong takes on Rabobank commodities role
Rabobank Australia & New Zealand has appointed Graydon Chong as the senior grains and oilseeds analyst in its food & agribusiness research and advisory (FAR) division.
According to a Rabobank spokeswoman, Chong has started his post at the end of July. Based in Sydney, he reports to Luke Chandler, general manager of the division.
Chong focuses on analysing developments in the domestic grain and oilseed markets. Prior to joining Rabobank, he worked at Viterra as grain trader.
Principal Global Investors hires AMP Capital’s Smyth
Principal Global Investors has appointed
Peter Smyth has joined Principal Global Investors chief operating officer and head of product in Australia. He will be based in Sydney.
In his new role, Smyth will report to Grant Forster, the firm’s chief executive in Australia. He joins from AMP Capital Investors, where his most recent role was head of product. Before that, he held various senior roles at Fidelity Investments Australia, Perpetual Investments and BT Funds Management.
BNY Mellon bolsters its Australia team
BNY Mellon has appointed Brigette Leckie to the newly created position as vice president of intermediary relationships in Australia followed by the expansion of its product and client services for the self-managed super fund (SMSF) segment and intermediaries.
Leckie is based in Sydney and reports to Bruce Murphy, managing director for BNY Mellon asset management Australia.
Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Leckie has held a number of key positions at Alliance Bernstein; her most recent role was director of investment strategies.
Ngai hired by GFMA
Global Financial Markets Association (GFMA) has hired David Ngai as managing director for Asia Pacific of the global foreign exchange(FX) division.
Based in Hong Kong, Ngai will report to James Kemp, global FX division managing director, globally and Mark Austen, Asia Securities Industry & Financial markets Association (ASIFMA) chief executive officer (CEO), locally.
Prior to this appointment, Ngai was the managing director and group head of compliance for China and Hong Kong at Macquarie Group of Companies. Before that, he held a number of regional management positions at JP Morgan Cazenove, Dah Sing Financial holdings.
