RBS’ Wong resurfaces at ANZ DCM
Vincent Wong, a former managing director in RBS’ debt capital markets (DCM) team, has joined ANZ in the newly created role of head of Greater China DCM. Wong, who started at the bank this month, reports to Jimmy Choi, who is ANZ’s head of DCM for Asia. He is based in Hong Kong.
The move comes three months after Wong left RBS following seven years at the bank. At RBS, Wong was responsible for origination and execution for the bank’s cross-border DCM transactions across corporates and financial institutions in Asia.
His coverage included investment grade, high yield and hybrid capital security transactions in G3 and regional currencies. He joined RBS in 2007 as an executive director after spending 10 years at Deutsche Bank in New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Former RBS head of Apac markets joins Telstra
Guy Wylie has joined Australian phone company Telstra corp. as the company’s corporate treasurer after leaving his role at RBS in August. He left the British bank, where he was head of primary markets for Asia Pacific, for personal reasons.
He re-joined RBS in January this year to take on the newly created role, from UBS where he worked for five years, most recently as head of DCM for Asia. At RBS his role was taken on by Pierre Ferland, head of markets for Asia Pacific.
Burke heads DB’s debt institutional client group
Deutsche Bank has appointed Kevin Burke as the head of debt for its institutional client group in Asia ex Japan and Australia.
Burke, who most recently was head of global investor solutions at Barclays in London, will return to Singapore and start his new role in January. He will report to Bhupinder Singh, co-head of corporate banking and securities for Asia Pacific, and Rich Herman, global head of the institutional client group.
Burke worked in Singapore from 2006 when he was appointed head of non-Japan Asia distribution for Barclays Capital, to oversee sales of all capital markets products. He reported to Justin Bull, head of Asia Pacific distribution in Hong Kong.
At Deutsche he will also join the newly formed corporate banking and securities (CB&S) executive committee in the region, which aims to sharpen corporate governance and enforce key messages.
Before joining Barclays in 2004, Burke worked at Credit Suisse as a managing director in EU investor solutions. He spent 10 years working in Asian distribution between 1993-2003.
UBS names co-heads for new Asia ECM solutions team
UBS has appointed Michel Lee and Stuart Mackay as co-heads of Asia equity capital market solutions. They take on the role from Sam Kendall, who had retained his responsibilities for running Asian ECM when he was promoted to global head in January.
Lee is currently head of strategic equity solutions and derivatives distribution for Asia Pacific, and will retain his responsibilities within investor client services and remain on the global equity derivatives management committee.
Mackay was appointed head of ECM for southeast Asia in 2011. He has also previously held the position of head of Asia equity syndicate.
Lee and Mackay report to Kendall and Joseph Chee, head of global capital markets. Lee is based in Hong Kong, while Mackay is based in Singapore.
Hammond leads Apac capital markets at Gazprombank
Michael Hammond has been appointed to lead the development of the Russian lender’s capital markets business in Asia Pacific, as well as setting up a Hong Kong office.
Prior to joining Gazprombank, Hammond was co-founder and managing partner of 3C, an international boutique merchant bank in London, focused on the mid-cap market.
He has worked across debt, equity and equity-linked capital markets for 31 years, and has worked for UBS, J.P. Morgan, ABN Amro Rothschild and City Capital, based in the US, the UK, Switzerland, Japan and Hong Kong.
HSBC Australia names cash management head
Simon Babbage will become head of payments and cash management for HSBC in Australia, where he will be responsible for global cash and liquidity management services and products for corporates and financial institutions.
He will be based in Sydney and will report locally to James Hogan, head of commercial banking for HSBC in Australia and regionally to John Laurens, head of payments and cash management for Asia Pacific.
He moves to the role from his position as head of product management for HSBC’s payments and cash management business in Australia. He takes over from Allan Dueck, who has moved to HSBC Turkey.
Eastspring hires Bang as deputy CEO
The Asian asset management arm of Prudential Corporation Asia has hired Michele Bang as deputy chief executive. Bang has more than 23 years of Asian and international financial industry experience. She will report to the firm’s chief executive Guy Strapp and will be based in Hong Kong, effective from later this year.
She joins the firm from Deutsche Asset and Wealth Management where she has worked for the past eight years, most recently as managing director, head of global client group, North Asia asset management.
Before this, she managed the regional structured product distribution platform for CIBC, Toronto Dominion and Chemical Bank in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Chow takes on Apac relationship role at State Street
Eric Chow has been named Asia Pacific head of client relationship management for the alternative investment solutions (AIS) group at State Street Global Services, with immediate effect. He will be based in Hong Kong, reporting to Carol Hall, senior managing director of the firm’s AIS group, at a regional level.
His focus will be on China and North Asian markets. He joins the firm from Bank of New York (BNY) Mellon, where he was responsible for business strategy, product and business management for AIS and financial markets and treasury services in China. Before this he was regional head of business development at HSBC Institutional Trust Asia.
PineBridge appoints China sales MD
PineBridge Investments has named Peng Luo as managing director for institutional sales for greater China, effective October 15. Luo will be based in Hong Kong, reporting directly to Rajeev Mittal, PineBridge’s Asia Pacific CEO.
Luo has more than 17 years of experience in the financial services industry. Before joining PineBridge, he was managing director and head of financial institutions and retail sales for China at Société Générale corporate and investment banking (CIB). He has also worked at Fortis Bank, HSBC and Bank of China.
RBC Wealth Management hires four in sales
The Canadian bank’s wealth management arm has hired Adria Chiu as director of the client solutions group for Asia. She reports to Enoch Tan, managing director and head of the client solutions group.
Choa Yeye will become a director for RBC Wealth Management (WM), Southeast Asia, reporting to Reto Caviezel, senior director for Southeast Asia.
Deepu Joseph and David Tan will become senior directors for Southeast Asia, reporting to Febby Avianto, managing director and market manager, RBC WM Southeast Asia.
