HSBC scoops BofA Merrill veteran for corp coverage

HSBC has hired Joel Van Dusen from Bank of America Merrill Lynch as global head of large corporates, a newly created position.

He will help develop the commercial banking division, reporting to Simon Cooper, group managing director and chief executive of global commercial banking — a position Cooper started on October 1.

London-based Van Dusen had worked at BofA Merrill for 25 years, most recently as global head of corporate banking.

RHB appoints head of institutional equities

Malaysia’s RHB Investment Bank has hired industry veteran Lena Yong Oi Ling as head of institutional equities for Asia. Based in the Singapore investment banking arm — DMG and Partners Securities — Yong will oversee the institutional equities division, which covers markets including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

Yong's sales career spans 25 years and she joins from UOB Kay Hian, Singapore, where she was head of institutional sales for Asia. Her time in the industry also saw her work at CLSA, Macquarie, SG Warburg Securities and UBS.

StanChart creates global RMB trading team

Standard Chartered has set up a global RMB trading team in its financial markets division. It will be led by Charles Feng, global head of RMB trading and regional head of FX, rates and credit trading in Northeast Asia.

The new team comprises traders in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taiwan, London and New York – with additional support from trading teams in other locations worldwide.

This follows the bank’s announcement from August of a RMB solutions team in its client coverage division.

UBS names head of Singapore corp client solutions

Oi Yee Choo will take on the role of head of corporate client solutions for Singapore at UBS, effective February 4, 2014. Her most recent position was head of Singapore investment banking at Morgan Stanley.

Ranade to head loan sales at VTB Capital Asia

Parag Ranade will head loan sales at VTB Capital in Asia – responsible for the syndicated loans business and expansion of regional client operations. He will be based in Singapore, reporting to Dimitrios Kavvathas, head of global markets for Asia Pacific.

Before joining VTB Capital, Ranade was executive director of UBS in Singapore, responsible for fixed income operations in Asia. From 2007 to 2012 he worked in the loan capital markets division at Barclays Capital in Singapore.

Deutsche Bank in Asean hires

Deutsche Bank has named two country heads for trade finance and cash management for corporates (TF/CMC). Novianti Hardi will become head of TF/CMC in Indonesia. Based in Jakarta, she will report to Kaushik Shaparia, Asia Pacific head of TF/CMC regionally, and locally to Elwin Karyadi, head of global transaction banking for Indonesia.

Hardi has over 23 years of experience in project management, finance and securities solutions for SMEs and most recently in cash management and trade finance.

Chintan Shah has been appointed head of TF/CMC in Malaysia. Shah has also joined the Asia Pacific Trade & Cash Solutions (TCS) team. He was previously head of cash management for corporates in India. For his role as Malaysia head, he will report to Shaparia, and for his TCS role, he will report to Suman Chaki, regional head of TCS.

In addition, Rosalina Lazuardi has been appointed head of global network banking, Indonesia, reporting locally to Hardi and regionally to Arnd Weckes, Asia Pacific Head of global network banking.

Tang named CIO of PineBridge Taiwan

Joseph Tang has joined PineBridge Investments as senior vice president, chief investment officer in Taiwan, effective immediately. He will oversee the management of local and overseas equities and fixed income, as well as fund of funds.

He will be based in Taipei, reporting directly to Ann Yang, PineBridge’s Taiwan CEO. Tang has worked in equity investment for more than 20 years. Before joining PineBridge he was CIO for Value Partners Concord Asset Management. Before this he worked at JTM Capital Partners Hong Kong and J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

Standard Life Investments opens HK office

Standard Life Investments has opened a new office in Hong Kong, in addition to its existing offices in China, Korea and Australasia as the asset manager grows its business in Asia Pacific.

The new office opening follows on from recent hires to the firm’s Hong Kong team – Allen Wang as head of Asia institutional business and Virginia Devereux Wong as head of Asia Wholesale Business.

Temasek appoints deputy chairman

Cheng Wai Keung has been appointed deputy chairman of the board of directors at Singaporean sovereign investor Temasek, effective November 4.

Cheng has been a non-executive director on the Temasek Board since September 2011. In addition, he is currently chairman and managing director of Wing Tai Holdings and vice chairman of Singapore-Suzhou Township Development and a director with Singbridge Holdings and Singapore Health Services.

Moelis & Company hires senior Asia advisor

Anthony Root has joined Moelis & Company as a senior adviser, based in Hong Kong. He has worked as a lawyer for almost 30 years.

He joins from Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy where he was the managing partner for Asia from 2001. He was also the head of Milbank’s Asia corporate practice, its China practice and its Beijing and Hong Kong offices.

Before joining Milbank in 1996, Root worked at Davis Polk & Wardwell, where he helped open their Hong Kong office in 1993, and at Rogers & Wells. He started his career as a banker at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company.
