Lipton to head HSBC Apac loan platform
HSBC has launched a single loan syndication platform within capital finance, global banking and markets. Within Asia Pacific, the platform will be led by Phil Lipton, current head of syndicated finance, DCM for Asia Pacific. In his new role he will report locally to Stephen Williams, head of Asia Pacific capital financing.
The reorganisation means that all loan syndication and private side distribution will be under a single roof. These businesses currently sit separately within leverage and acquisition finance (LAF), project and export finance, debt capital markets, real estate finance and asset and structured finance, according to an internal memo seen by Asiamoney PLUS.
The platform, called Loan Syndications, will be managed in EMEA by Andrew McMurdo, currently European head of LAF syndicate and in the Americas by Monica Macia, currently head of loan syndications, DCM, Latin America.
McMurdo will continue to report locally to Oliver Duff, global head of LAF and Monica will report locally to Katia Bouazza, co-head of DCM for the Americas as well as to Richard Jackson, co-head of leverage and acquisition finance, Americas. All existing loan syndication bankers will report to these regional heads.
Zorrilla named CEO of Citi Japan
Rodrigo Zorrilla has been named representative director, president and CEO of Citigroup Global Markets Japan, effective February 1, 2014, subject to the necessary approvals and procedures.
He will report locally to Peter Eliot, representative director, president and CEO of Citigroup Japan Holdings Corp, as well as to Jamie Forese, CEO of Citi’s institutional client group and co-president of Citigroup in New York.
Zorrilla is currently chief operating officer for Citi’s Asia Pacific region, a role he has held since February 2012. He will not be replaced in this role, according to a spokesperson at the bank.
Prior to that, he was head of markets for Asia Pacific with responsibility in the region for trading, sales and marketing, risk treasury, structuring and capital markets origination. He joined Citi in Mexico in 1992 and has held various senior roles across Latin America and Asia Pacific.
In his new role he takes over from Suneel Bakhshi, who has decided to leave Citi to become group chief executive officer of LCH.Clearnet Bakhshi will stay in Japan until January.
BNP Paribas IP hires head of Apac sales
BNP Paribas Investment Partners (BNPP IP) has appointed TF Cheng to the newly created role of head of sales for Asia Pacific as part of a number of hires in the region. Cheng joined the firm in 2001 and became head of institutions business development for Asia in 2010.
His new role was effective from November 1 and he will oversee sales distribution and institutional teams as well as the business strategy across official institutions, insurance and endowments, and private wealth. He reports to Vincent Camerlynck, CEO Asia Pacific. Both are based in Hong Kong.
In addition, Puay-Lit Tan has been appointed head of official institutions for Asia Pacific to oversee the sovereign wealth business. Tan is also deputy CEO for Singapore and head of institutional business for South and Southeast Asia. He joined the firm on November 7 and is based in Singapore.
Lesley Lo has joined has head of insurance and endowments for Asia Pacific and retains her role has head of institutional business for greater China and other Asia, including Thailand and the Philippines. She joined the firm in 2007 and is based in Hong Kong.
Christian Bucaro will become head of private wealth for Asia Pacific, from his position as head of distribution for Southeast Asia. He joined BNPP IP in 2005 and is based in Singapore.
NAB hires JBWere CEO
Justin Greiner will become CEO of JBWere, the wealth management arm of National Australia Bank, effective from the start of February 2013.
He joins from ANZ where he was general manager of wealth transformation. Before joining ANZ he was Greenway Capital head of retail and chief operating officer. He has also held roles as head of financial planning at Westpac and head of corporate development at Rothschild Australia Asset Management.
Vanguard hires investment strategy head
Jeffrey Johnson has been appointed to lead the investment strategy and research team for Vanguard Asia Pacific. He will head up a team of four senior investment analysts and economists.
He joined the Vanguard Group in 200 working as a senior investment analyst in the portfolio review department, where he was responsible for fund and manager oversight.
