Scandi banks seek better deal on capital rules
Scandinavian banks are expected to hit the bank capital market in the next few months to respond to the EU’s Capital Requirements Directive. But they could be held up by a debate over the quality of their assets and the true strength of their capital positions.
The European Commission said this week it would take an extra month to decide whether to approve the European Banking Authority’s proposed reporting requirements for bank capital ratios, after Scandinavian banking associations complained they would disproportionately affect the region’s institutions.
