EBA: rise in asset encumbrance is not a concern
The European Banking Authority said this week that it is not overly concerned by an increase in banks' asset encumbrance last year and a rise in covered bond encumbrance for the third successive year.
The EBA’s annual report, published earlier this week, was based on quarterly data collected in 2016. At 26.6% the ratio of encumbered assets relative to total assets was slightly higher than 2015’s ratio of 25.4% and 2014’s ratio of 25.1%.
